Moving Day

Last Monday was moving day for Ben and Karen.  They loaded up the big truck and went off towards their new home. Karen is doing well.  The pregnancy is going fine, but she needs lots of rest.  Ben and Karen need lots of prayers as they enter into the realm of parenthood. Karen is due in June. Stay tuned for baby pictures!

What a long day!

We rose about 6:00 AM.  We met at the church at 8:30AM to set up and sound check so that we could lead worship at 10:45.  After church we tore down our stuff, packed it away in the trailer and went out for Mexican food. We left straight from the restaurant to arrive at the site of Cross-Life Live by 3:00PM.  Set up and sound check with other us and the other bands lasted right up until the doors opened at 6:00 PM.  We played from 8:00 to 9:00 and then we tore it all down and packed the trailer again. We got to the fast food burger place about 10:30 for a snack.  By 11:00 they were pushing us out the door.  I think we got to bed about midnight.

What a way to end the year!

Last night we played for the youth of First Baptist Church in Youngsville, NC.  Wow, what a great night. The place was crazy.  In between sets the band got to hang out with the kids and try our hand at a few of the games.  We found that Ben and David were about evenly matched at ping pong. (If only they could manage to keep the ball on the table!  The band was also introduced to the fast moving game of carpet bowling. (it seemed a little different than we imagined) Our manager was hit with a stray flying pool ball and narrowly escaped death. (OK we thought about giving him a band aid and a pat on the back)  We will want to visit Youngsville again in 2006!

A BIG weekend & Change is VERY CLOSE !

Before we spill the info on the info on the big weekend, we have to update you on the new CD.  The project has been sent off for the final stage!  The duplicator is work hard to crank out copy after copy of the new Change me CD.  The artwork alone is stunning.  Keep checking the site just in case we are able to sneak some artwork files on to the site.

Now about the weekend.  This was the first time ever that 5 Smooth Stones has played 3 concerts in one weekend.  We had a great time.  The congregation of Just Blessed Missionary Baptist Church in Clayton, NC blessed us on Friday.  Then Saturday we moved up the road to Cary, NC where we played the first ever Spirit Fest.  We got to hang out with our good friend Ryan Van Sickle from Holly Springs, NC. Ryan is a talented musician with a real heart for the Lord.  Consider inviting him to your event.  After Spirit Fest it was up the road again to Durham, NC to do another outdoor event at Parkwood Baptist Church.

Back in the studio again

Wow! Its finally time. The band is back in the recording studio laying down some great new material. We can’t wait for all of you to hear the new CD. It will take some time to get all the work done and ready for sale. We will shoot some pictures in the studio and put them up on the website just as soon as possible. Please pardon our lack of concerts in June, but this recording stuff takes a lot of time! We will be touring again in July.

It’s like coming home!

Last night we played at Cathedral of His Glory in Greensboro, NC where we opened for Falling Up. This was our third time playing at COHG and it just keeps getting better. Our thanks to Kenny, Mike, Evelyn, Dana and Mick for all they do to make our concerts there smooth and fun to do. May God continue to bless you and the ministry that you are performing.

Another action packed weekend!

On Saturday we played the Cleveland Community Strawberry Festival in Garner, NC. While the band was playing, our manager was approached by two reporters from different papers. If you live in the Cleveland or Smithfield, NC take a close look at the next edition of you local paper. We met a lot of great folks there and look forward to hearing from you soon!

On Sunday we played Antioch Baptist Church in Mamers, NC. The crowd was great and they were hoppin’!  We sold out of promo CD's as well as small and medium "T"-shirts. (Looks like it's time to reorder)  The pastor, staff and congregation treated us like family. They even provided us a home cooked meal complete with peach cobbler! The best part is we are going back! Check the calendar.

The dog days of Spring
On Easter Saturday we played an outdoor concert at Travel Resorts of America. This was our first outdoor concert of the year. There was another all-time fist for 5ss. Right in the middle of the performance a dog got loose from it’s owner and ran up on stage. He seemed quite confused by all the music but finally found his way off stage.

Last night (Saturday) we played a concert at the Vineyard Café in Raleigh, NC. The place was packed and the crowd was awesome! It was a true blessing to the band to see people clapping and to hear them sing along. Our thanks to Leah and all the staff over at Vineyard for taking such good care of us.

This morning  (Sunday) we got up and went over to Mt. Moriah Church in Garner, NC. and led worship for the brand new youth service there. Thanks to youth pastor Michael and all the youth for inviting us. We want to thank Shayanne, Amanda, Brittany and Skylar for helping lead the service.  We had a great time. We are back in the studio!   (sort of)-
Since we have a light concert load this month we decided to rent out an undisclosed location and lay down some tracks for a promotional CD. The CD will have new stuff not contained on our debut CD. Although the CD is intended for promoters, we may make some available to fans if there is enough interest. We got together Sunday afternoon an got the first song recorded. (It was “Change Me”) The 4 min song took just a little over 2 hours to record. Wow, this recording stuff is fun! We’ll keep you posted.

The Java was Divine-
Wow! It was a great night at Java Divine in Holly Springs, NC. We were pleased to play with our friends “Audience of One”. Great job guys! I got to drink one of those blended, frozen coffee things. (good stuff) Once again God blessed us and the proprietors with an above average crowd. Before the night was done we had to pull out some folding chairs, and their were even some people outside.

A COLD night at the Carpenter's Cafe-
Saturday night we had a concert at the Carpenter’s Café in Clayton, NC. It was a COLD night (about 20 deg with a cutting wind). God blessed us again with a near record crowd. We had great time and gave away some FREE STUFF.

Joe’s was Jumping-
Last night we played a coffee shop in Garner, NC named Java Joe’s. The place was packed!  We broke the all time attendance record by 50%!  We actually had to set up a speaker outside. By the end of the night the staff looked like they could use a strong cup of Java.

A walk to remember-
Last night we played at the “Christmas Trail 2004”. The idea was inspired by God and produced by our dear friends Kevin & Merrie in Fuquay-Varina. The trail is a recreation of the walk that travelers may have taken on their way to Bethlehem 2000 years ago. Beautiful job you guys, and the hot chocolate was great too!
