Born and raised in North Carolina David began his musical adventure in 1999 when at the age of 9 he began taking piano lessons from his church organist.  Immediately she recognized that God had blessed this young man with an amazing musical ability.  By the age of 13 he began to compose music, and by age 14 he had composed over half a dozen songs.  .

David had been playing the flute in the school band, but was asked to fill in on  “percussion” from time to time.  Later, after learning keys, percussion, bass and flute he decided that he wanted to learn how to play a “trap set”. (That’s a full-blown drum kit to all you non-drummers out there.)  He began to take lessons from the worship leader’s husband at church.  About a year later 5ss (one of David’s favorite bands) was in need of a drummer and the band’s manager (David’s dad) sheepishly mentioned that his son could play drums.  He didn’t want to put any pressure on the band to select David and told them that he did not want to give any input in this decision.  After a brief discussion he was invited to audition for 5ss.

The idea was to audition several drummers over the course of a few weeks and select one. Since David did not own a set of drums the band assembled at the church where he had been taking lessons.   With his teacher looking on, the band began to play some familiar praise songs.  Later David commented,  “For about half the first song I was a little nervous.  Then it just felt like band practice.”

After they had run through 4 or 5 familiar songs, Ben said “OK, let’s see how you do with one you’ve never heard before.”  His drum coach quietly said “Good luck finding one he’s never heard before.”  The band pulled out a brand new original song called, “More and More”.  The band had already come together so much, that when David, sensing that the course was approaching, looked towards Karen. She counted “5,6,7,8” and they all rolled into the course together!  After the addition they offered David the position without any other drummers getting a shot.

David’s desire is to use his talents to honor and praise his Lord & Creator.
